Lab Sample Analysis

  • OMC offers both testing and consulting services related to Fusion Bonded Epoxy coating materials applied to line pipes in the oil and gas industry. These services are in alliance with SP0394 with examinations for acceptance criteria in powder and cured FBE coatings.
  • Specifications served: ISO, NACE, ASTM, CSA and Others.
  • Abrasive Contamination and Conductivity : To determine the cleanliness of materials to be used during surface preparation. ASTM D4940, SSPC-AB2 & SSPC-AB3.
  • Adhesion Pull-off: To determine the level of adhesion between coating and surface. D3359, D6677, & ISO 15741.
  • Back side Contamination and Porosity of coatings: To determine the percentage contamination and level of porosity of the coating. CSA Z245.20 & NACE SP0394-2013.
  • Cathodic Disbondment: To determine the cathodic resistance of the coating under extreme conditions. API RP 5L7, ASTM G8, G42, G95, CSA Z245.20 & NACE SP0394-2013 (77ºF to 203ºF).
  • Chemical Resistance: To determine the cure of a coating/paint. D4787 & D5402.
  • Coating Thickness: To determine the thickness of the protective coating. SSPC-PA2 & ASTM D4138a.
  • DSC: To determine the heat reactivity of the epoxy powder coating. CSA Z245.20 & NACE SP0394-2013.
  • Epoxy Cure: To determine the needed time to heat exposure to cure as recommended by the manufacturer. As recommended per Manufacturer, CSA Z245.20 & NACE SP0394-2013.
  • Flexibility: To determine the elasticity of the coating at different temperatures. CSA Z245.20 & NACE SP0394-2013. (Fixed-Radius Mandrel, & Four-Point).
  • Gel Time: To determine the needed time to heat exposure to gel as recommended by the manufacturer. As recommended per Manufacturer, CSA Z245.20 & NACE SP0394-2013.
  • Hardness: To determine the cure level by testing the coating hardness achieved. ASTM D2240
  • Holiday Testing: To determine if the coating is free of discontinuities in the coating. ASTM D5162, NACE SP0188.
  • Impact: To determine if the coating can withstand a specific force of impact. ASTM D2794, ASTM G14, CSA Z245.20, & NACE SP0392-2013.
  • Microphotography: To provide a clear up-close picture of a specimen.
  • Pull-off Adhesion Testing: To determine the adhesion of the coating to the surface or the adhesion in between layers. ASTM D4541.
  • Sieve Analysis: To determine the mixture percentage of the abrasives. SSPC-AB2, SSPC-AB3 & ASTM C136/136 M.
  • Water Immersion: To determine the coating resistance to moisture. ASTM D870, CSA Z245.20, & NACE SP0394-2013 (75ºF to 203ºF).
